A Discovering Diamonds assessment of The Angel of Goliad by Jean M. Roberts

Fictional Drama / Twin timeline
1800s / current day
Mexico /Texas
Imaginary mates are usually not actual—or are they?
A freak accident, a mysterious portrait and an imaginary friendship take Magda O’Toole on a journey of self-discovery. Her seek for solutions leads her to Toluca, Mexico, the place she meets a good-looking Professor, Miguel Villatoro, and encounters the ghostly apparition of a lady lengthy useless.
Her want to reconnect with a childhood pal pulls Magda into the previous—it’s 1836 and the Texas Revolution gathers momentum. Trapped and unable to return dwelling, she travels with the Mexican Military deep into enemy territory, witnessing the occasions of the conflict.
With solely a tenuous maintain on her previous life, Magda should discover a solution to return to Miguel and her time. As she struggles to outlive, Magda learns the true which means of friendship, love and braveness.”
Magda O’Toole has been in a coma for 4 months. Upon awakening, she is hardly in a position to transfer. She asks for her pal, Francita and claims a Spanish or Mexican lady visited her typically throughout her coma and informed her tales and taught her Spanish, which she will now communicate fluently.
Again in 1818, a younger woman named Francita performs with a pal her mom can’t see who disappears in a shimmer of sunshine.
When she recovers, Megan determines to go on the hunt for ‘Francita’ who has abandoned her. On this effort, she has the assistance of Miguel Villatoro, with whom she falls in love. Finally, she succeeds in going again to the previous and reuniting together with her pal. The issue is that she has gone too far and doesn’t know easy methods to return to the current so she finds herself embroiled in Texas’s wrestle for independence.
The twin timeline has been overdone, for my part, however I loved this e book. It’s an fascinating story of putting up with friendship, our ties to the previous, and comes with totally different views: Mexican/American/fashionable lady who experiences and sympathises with each side.
The one objection I’ve is to a serial-killer half. I understood why the creator included it, however to me it was superfluous. I might have loved the story simply as a lot with out it. All the identical, a great 4 star learn.
