Pricey Beloved Sangha,
I’m very glad to announce modifications arising in March 2023 within the Abbatial Management at San Francisco Zen Heart. Upon suggestion of the Elders Council, the SFZC Board has invited Doshin Mako Voelkel to grow to be the following Abiding Abbot of Metropolis Heart and Jiryu Rutschman-Byler the following Abiding Abbot of Inexperienced Gulch Farm. We’re grateful that they’ve accepted these necessary positions.
Tenzen David Zimmerman, the present Metropolis Heart Abiding Abbot, having served 4 years in that place, shall be appointed the following Central Abbot.
Furyu Nancy Schroeder, Abiding Abbess of Inexperienced Gulch Farm, will step down after serving 9 years and I, Rinso Ed Sattizahn, having served as Abbot and Central Abbot since 2014, can even step down.
Within the coming months, Sangha Information Journal will run a collection of interviews with our new abbots-elect on how they view their roles and challenges forward, in addition to interviews with the departing abbots on their time at SFZC and their ideas on this necessary generational change.
The Mountain Seat ceremonies shall be held in mid-March 2023. Extra info shall be out there in Sangha Information nearer to this occasion. The broader sangha will have the ability to take part by way of livestream and shall be an necessary a part of welcoming this new era of SFZC’s management.
I’m very inspired by this transition to the following era of abbatial management. Fu and I look ahead to supporting them in our positions as Senior Dharma Academics.
