Shakespeare Caroling (2021 Version)

Pleased holidays, everybody! It is time for one of many GEB’s favourite vacation traditions: Shakespeare caroling! Use these hyperlinks to see the carols we wrote in 2019 and 2020.

(There’s No Place Like) Dwelling for the Holidays (The Fontane Sisters)

Oh, there is no place like Rome for a love affair,

‘Trigger regardless of how distant you roam,

Once you pine for sunshine of her window glare,

For a love affair, you may’t beat Rome, candy Rome.

She met a boy who was a Montague,

He was headin’ for,

A masquerade ball, and a few beef and barley stew.

From the fortress, people are travelin’

To Verona’s violent streets,

From the quarto to the folio,

Gee, this playwright is terrific.

Oh, there is no place like Rome for a love affair,

‘Trigger regardless of how distant you roam,

If you wish to be star-crossed in one million methods,

For a love affair, you may’t beat Rome, candy Rome.

Up on the Housetop (Benjamin Hanby)

Up on the pulpit, Antony paused

Seemed out on the the mob he precipitated

Tore down Brutus with ironic reward

All for the kingly crown, Roman craze

Oh, oh, oh, who would’ve thought

Oh, oh, oh, who would’ve thought

Up on the pulpit, pause, pause, pause

Look ahead to the pity and crowd’s applause

First comes the well-known trip-e-let

To cover Antony’s malicious wit

Buddies, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears

Whereas I trick you with a letter and a few false tears

Oh, oh, oh, who would’ve thought

Oh, oh, oh, who would’ve thought

Up on the pulpit, pause, pause, pause

Look ahead to the pity and crowd’s applause

Look how he disproved Brutus’ declare

Oh simply see how he builds his fame

Right here is his ambition and rhetoric

The group ought to’ve distrusted Antony’s tips

Oh, oh, oh, who would’ve thought

Oh, oh, oh, who would’ve thought

Up on the pulpit, pause, pause, pause

Look ahead to the pity and crowd’s applause

Shakespearean parodies of your favorite holiday carols
